Radar
The device scans space by every available method. For faster scanning, a gravitational method of detecting mass displacement is used. Relatively static objects, as well as known planets, moons, and meteorites, are excluded from the gravitational-wave picture. The remaining objects are usually ships. The picture produced by the radar shows all ships present in the star system.
The radar must stay some distance from large masses to operate, so it does not work on planets or in planetary orbits.
