Intergalactic engine
The engine opens a passage into hyperspace. From a mathematical standpoint the ship is transferred into multidimensional space: the limits of special relativity are shifted into extra dimensions, and the ship undergoes constant acceleration followed by deceleration. A side effect is the absence of inertia and a relatively low cost of changing speed. Operation requires a large amount of energy obtained from a controlled nuclear explosion (on the ship, uranium is consumed in hyper jumps).
Role: a dedicated
hyper drive for heavy ships and stations. It is developed from the Hyperactive engine: the same dimensional school, but it no longer combines in-system flight — inside a system, capital ships use a Diffusion engine (and other units as needed).
On light ships the Hyperactive engine itself is usually fitted instead of the Intergalactic engine (universal mode).
