Magnetic resonance shield
A shield used on small and mid-class ships. It consists of a large number of balanced superconducting electromagnets. By locally distorting magnetic fields, it deflects or dampens the speed of any mass aimed at the ship. The shield has no inertia, so it can be switched off at the moment of firing. It is poorly suited to ground structures because of its low-temperature superconductors.
