Notes on planetology

There are 4 types of planets in the galaxy.
1. Gas giants - Hydrogen is mined, red color
2. Earth-type planets - Oxygen is mined, green color
3. Dried-out planets - Nitrogen is mined, yellow color
4. Dead planets - Chlorine is mined, white color
When orbital gas extraction plants are built around a planet, that planet's own gas is mined.

An earth-type planet is chosen for colonization as the most suitable for life. However, colonization does not forbid exploiting natural resources of other planets. The Confederation bears no responsibility for colonizing other planets and therefore provides no protection.

Any planet has 4 defense lines.
1. Ships in planet orbit
2. Orbital defenses
3. Ships on the planet surface
4. Planetary defensive structures.

Gas giants
Giant planets hundreds and thousands of times larger than habitable planets. They have no solid surface as such and very high erosion, allowing hydrogen to be mined in their orbit for refueling ships. Gas giants often become havens for pirate bases; easy access to fuel and the large number of such planets make it easy to hide in the depths of space.

Earth-type planets
Very rare planets in star systems. As a rule only one such planet exists in a star system. The colonist has full freedom of action on the surface of this planet and full inviolability is guaranteed. However, earth-type planets do not always have enough minerals and over time other planets must be developed. Some minerals contain tiny amounts of rare-earth materials. However, the number of mining structures is limited by deposits on the planet.

Dried-out planets
These planets were once very similar to Earth, had an oxygen atmosphere, and life may have existed there; however, no planet of this type has yet been found with signs of intelligent life. Some structures were built by outsiders, since they were high-tech and had no buildings from earlier stages of development. The alien race is provisionally called "Strangers", since no one has ever seen them, but their presence in the universe has been confirmed many times. Organic remains form a nitrogen atmosphere; gas extraction plants are placed in its upper layers and obtain pure nitrogen.

Dead planets
As a rule, these planets form due to proximity to their star, or they are former large asteroids or comets. They form a thin chlorine shell, but due to weak gravity the planet orbit can host several chlorine collection plants.
